Waltz from Delsbo

For: Violin & el-organ (bass & drums)

From LP "The Asmussen Thigpen Quartet" 1974. Rec. Jazzhus Montmartre June 1973. Svend Asmussen, Kjell Öhmann (0rgan), Mads Vinding (bass), Ed Thigpen (drums).

Only the organ-manuscript was available, the violin-part is my transcription. Svend plays rhythmically very freely, laid back, and the notation cannot give the real impression. Also - some of the fast notes were difficult to recognize. Rehearsal mark B and C goes in tempo with the hihat on all beats and is an ornamented version of the second part of the original melody. In C Öhmann plays freely over the chords.

The 1975-version of Delsbo (on Trio-LP “Musik I Kyrkan”) is based on the same arrangement but is played rubato throughout with Putte and Svend alternating and ornamenting the melody, while Ivan with virtuosity uses all 88 keys of the piano.
